Mary turned 5 this week. She had a great time despite not getting the promised swim party because of her broken arm. Two days after Christmas we were heading out the door to go to the Coats' Christmas party, Mary had gone upstairs to get her coat and on the way down she tripped on her coat and rolled the rest of the way. We took the other kids up to the party and headed to the ER. Mary was so good, I could not believe it. My dramatic child, about everything, was the ideal patient. It took quite awhile to get it back into place. A week later we went back to get the hard cast and took more pictures -- BAD NEWS the fracture had shifted and needed to be pinned. So the next morning we headed up north to see a orthopedic and he took her into surgery to pin it. This time Mary was a little more scared (just about the IV), once the gave her a little oral versed she was great. It was quite hilarious actually. She did great and hopefully in a couple of days we can get the pink cast. She was so excited for her birthday she wanted to go to school the next day to celebrate it at school. She seemed to be doing just fine so she went. She was also excited to take her oxygen masks from the hospital to show her class. Her cousin Emma was also quite sweet to her. I called her mom to tell her to have Emma tell their teacher that Mary was having surgery. Emma did not handle the news well. She was so upset that she could not go to school either. She wanted her Mary. She was afraid that Mary was never going to come back. So when we got home from the hospital Emma came over and the played with all the hospital stuff Mary had recieved.
Mary loves Tinkerbell and wanted a Tinkerbell Barbie Cake. Here was the my finished product.
Very patient Grandma Stephenson letting Emily and Gracie do her hair

Awww... poor Mary.... bless her heart! It looks like she had a wonderful birthday though (and nice job Mindy on the cake!)
Happy Birthday Mary!!
Wow! I'm impressed! The cake looks awesome! You are such a good mom.
Love it!!! Tell her not to worry, There is always time to swim. All three time I broke my arm I had a cast on over my birthday. I think my broken foot may have coincided with a birthday as well- it's hard to remember... Anyway, she is a cutie. I told her sunday that I loved her pink cast, it's the same color as my second cast!
